Towing Issues: towed, exit ramp, traffic hazard

Question
Good afternoon,my brothers car broke down one morning on the way to work. He called to have somebody pick it up on a trailer. By the time the person got there the car was towed and now he doesn't have the money to get it out. The state is Illinois. I thought they normally tag your car and you have 24 hours to get it moved. I believe the car broke down on an exit ramp but I'm not certain.

Answer
A lot of this depends on if the "officer determines it is a TRAFFIC HAZARD" or not...

If any part of the vehicle was over the line, or it was in a curve that would speed up the removal of the vehicle...

Tagging vehicles does happen at times but depending on state laws vehicles can be towed right away as hazards or they might sit for weeks on end..

And unfortunately in your case the information you are getting is 3rd hand and its hard to get "how long" was the vehicle in that location before it got towed.

Daylight verses Nighttime also makes a difference

Sorry I could not really help here but its hard to guess on this kind of question.
