Towing Issues: Landlord/ bad tenant, gov pubs, tow company

Question
I'm a landlord in California.  Can I have tenants broken down car, with expired tags towed away legally?  How much warning/notice would I have to give?

best answer I have is to read the California Vehicle codes and they have about a zillion issues which deal with impounding vehicles from private property.. But the best one to start with is the one linked below..

Sorry but this is one of those loaded questions and its real hard to answer specially since I am not in California...  You can contact a "professional" tow company who does towing in your area and see what they say... That or contact a couple of them and match the answers and see which ones tend to seem to know their stuff...

After all if you do authorize the tow, you are the person who is really  on the hook for it being legal...
