Towing Issues: car left on private property, mechanics lien, storage charges

Question
this car was left here about month ago to be repaired.  bill not paid, parts not bought, owner refuses to remove or pay.  we could get fined, car has no plates.

Answer
OK, I guess that you are a repair shop somewhere as that information is not supplied...

Basically due to lack of information supplied I have to guess a bit and generalize a lot...

Contact a tow company if you want to have it removed, they will have you sign an "authorization to impound" form which says you are telling - authorizing them to remove it...

The vehicle owner is responsible for the towing and storage charges in about 99% of all cases and you will have no out of pocket expenses... Sometimes you might have to pay the tow company a fee to have it removed and when it is picked up they would refund the fee to you. If not then it is just an expense you will have to bear...

In some states, since it was left for over 7 days you will not need signs dealing with "authorized parking" posted, but some states you will need them posted for up to a week before it is towed...

Of course you can possibly file a "mechanics lien" on it for any repairs - estimates done and for storage fees, but that means it would be there for anywhere up to 60 more days...

Hope this helps
