Towing Issues: Mistakenly Towed, license plate numbers, court clerks

Question
My car got mistakenly towed. I know it's ridiculous, but it's true. The marshall or the towing company, made a mistake in identifying my license plate number. They were looking for DHF####, my car has DHE####. So, they towed my car and when i realized that this happened no one could find it in the system, because even after towing it these people didn't bother confirming the license plate numbers on my car, its like my car did not exist. They had my car there under the DHF#### license plate numbers instead of DHE####. My own police department proved to be completely useless and unprofessional in helping resolve and find the towed car. I'd like to know, can i punish any of these idiots in civil or criminal court, especially the marshal?

Answer
Well, I hate to say this, but most police departments and marshalls (is this up in New England area?) have imunity when dealing with this kind of thing...

That being said, I have to say that you can always sue anyone...Weither or not you win, its a hole differant issue.. Civil or criminal court, well not sure where it would fall, as some have specific kinds of cases that are handled.. You would have to check with the court clerks about who would take the case.
Mistakes happen, and as such it does create problems.  This one sounds like a simple and common mistake...
Now I trust when the smoke cleared and everyone realized your vehicle was not the one that they were after you had it returned free of charge (and hopefully not damaged)..

If thats the case I do also have to advise that at times its best to leave things alone as it can backfire when yo take on the city also...

Good luck
