Towing Issues: towing, dodge ram 1500, transmission coolers

Question
I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500, 4.7 litre magnum. I need to pull a 4400 lb
travel trailer. the rear suspension is suited for this, but without a tow package
I am cocerned about my engine and trans. please advise on stock capabilities
and performance upgrades. the drive home (mostly flat ground) from the
trailer dealer worked my engine and fuel tank. thanks.

While this is not my area of expertise, I can tell you that questions like this are real problems to answer...

There are so many factors in this answer that its best for you to do the research... Long Bed vs Short bed,  2 or 4 wheel drive, extended cab or not..  Manual or Automatic transmission...

I have to laugh at the "worked my fuel tank" it just shows that when you basically double the weight combination it affects the fuel mileage..

As to a towing package, that also depends on the class of the hitch, if its bumper hitch or frame mounted...  Transmission coolers are great when its used on an Automatic transmission, they do not work on Manual transmissions as there is not fluid circulation though coolers..

I think you can see the problems with me attempting to answer this question or to say YES or NO...
