Towing Issues: Tow dolly use, wheel drive vehicles, tow dollies

Question
I would like to know which vehicles can be used with tow dollies.  I test drove an HHR and a Jeep Wrangler and both vehicles owner's manuals indicated that they couldn't be towed using a tow dolly.  Why is that?  What front wheel drive vehicles can be towed with a tow dolly?  Thanx!!!!

Answer
Well, talk about a loaded question here...

The basic part of using a tow dolly to transport a vehicle behind an RV is that it gets the drive wheels off the ground.  Now as with anything that is towed on a dolly (or using a tow truck) the angle the vehicle is in when its lifted or on the trailer. Many vehicles now are so low to the ground with spoilers and tail pipe that they will cause damage is towed or dollied. I bet that is what they are talking about with the HHR..  Also if the HHR is towed with the rear wheels on the dolly that would have the drive wheels on the ground and cause transmission damage...

Remember one thing about owners manuals, they have to try and cover everything now to keep from getting them sued for not telling everything... Remember the hot coffee lawsuit at McDonalds?

Now as to what vehicles can be towed with a tow dolly, I think that a list of them would be way to hard to understand or even create... I mean maybe the 1987 Ford Escort would be, but the 2003 Escort would not be.. Get the point I am trying to make.
