Towing Issues: towing Van stuck in Park, tow truck drivers, wheel dollys

Question
What is the standard procedure for towing a van (on a Jerr-Dan tilt flatbed tow truck) with a service problem that has it stuck in Park.  That is the rear wheels will not turn.  My van was towed under these circumstances, and when I picked it up the driveshaft was damaged. I believe it was damaged while the operator tried to get the van off the truck.  It had been dragged onto the bed with a winch.

Answer
My area is towing trailers and campers etc.  NOT tow trucks, but I know enought that in this situation, good tow truck drivers have four wheel dollys that they can put on wheels that won't turn so they will roll.

Some are designed so that they don't have to flatbed the vehicle, but pick up one end, put these under the other end and tow it like regular.

If you ever get in this situation again, before you have a tow company come get the vehicle, be sure to ask if they can get the vehicle out without dragging it!
