Towing Issues: Ford f150 conversion van towing brakes, f150 conversion, conversion van

Question
QUESTION: We have a 1999 conversion van w/Electric brake towing pkg.
the brake box that sits on the dash has a light on it that
is usually red or green depending on whether you are pushing on the brakes or not. I drove the van today w/no problems, parked it and when i went back out to drive it
the light on the Electric brake box on the dash is out and
when I push on the brakes to take it out of park the
gear shift won't budge.
any ideas?
thanks!

ANSWER: are you parked on a hill or against a curb... Those will allow the transmission slack to roll up against the park pin and make it real hard to shift out of park.  Of course the key switch could be having a problem with the interlock lever...

You do not have to really pull on the shifter but you can apply more pressure than normal  It might jump or make a loud noise when it comes out... That is one away, others get more dangerous to attempt and I do not recommend them...

Hopefully this helps..

QUESTION: Thanks for your response. After further inspection it
appears the van is blowing the fuse that powers the
brakes as soon as we put in a new one it blows also.

any suggestions?
thank you!!

Answer
as with any trailer mounted plug assembly they are very prone to bad / broke wires at the rear of the vehicle.. I would check there for bad wires...

Beyond that it becomes a long search of wiring to see if you can find a short in it..  Good luck, and hopefully you will keep all your hair..
