Towing Issues: Laws on Abandoned Vehicles In California, full coverage insurance, storage fees

Question
Ok.... I got in a car accident and the car is in their towing/storage lot. It is claimed as totaled by my insurance company. I was wondering if i left the car there for over a certain amount of days it will be considered an abandoned vehicle and sold for the parts, so I don't have to pay the storage fees and the fees to get rid of the car.

Answer
aahhh  well if you have insurance  ( or is it the minimum needed which means that you do not have collision coverage) then you are responsible for the towing and storage fees as set by California law..

Now towing companies may sell the vehicle but any difference between the sale price and the amount due at time of the sale are deemed to be collectable from the last registered owner of the vehicle...

If you have full coverage insurance which is best then your insurance will pay the towing and storage. Now if you were hit by someone else and they were determined to be at fault then check with their insurance about your vehicle repairs or replacement...

Bottom line is that you are responsible for the fees, and if you are not covered by insurance I would make arrangements to get rid of the vehicle with the towing company.
