Towing Issues: Need towing help!, metal folding chairs, folding tables and chairs

Question
I'm going to be towing a 20 ft., 2 ton enclosed trailer for a mobile marketing event. I'm not sure what kind of truck will be best. The trailer will just contain folding tables and chairs - nothing too heavy. Can you provide some truck recommendations?

Answer
This can cover a lot of territory.

Also, you say 2 ton trailer, this is 4000 pounds.  Is that before you load anything in it?  If so, you could easily go to 6000 or more pounds.  Most decent portable tables are pretty heavy, same for metal folding chairs.  It is best to know very close to the total weight of trailer and load.

But assuming it is close to 6000 pounds, most 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton V8 trucks will do the job.  It will need a class IV or Class V hitch, with most full size trucks with any sort of trailer package will have.

You will have to have a brake controller, usually electric, and these do not come with the truck except for a couple of the brand new models.  But any trailer service business can sell you one and install it. Then learn how to adjust it and it is good advice to play around with the controller a lot before towing in traffic.  You need to know how the trailer will respond and how good the brakes are.

I would also recommend that the truck you get either have towing mirrors that extend out more than normal, or get the accessory mirror extenders that most towing accessory places will sell.

A good travel trailer business can set you up with everything you need, but again, most full size and a few mid-size trucks will do what you need.

if buying new, your dealer can make sure you get all the options you need, but if buying used, you will need to check to be sure what options the truck has.  usually there is a sticker in the glove box or somewhere on the vehicle that has the options listed.  Usually in a code that a dealer for that make can decode for you.

4WD is nice but not necessary.

I hope this helps.
