Question
would like to wire a trailer brake controller in my truck. I have a 1986 Ford F-250 already with a 4 prong plug and hitch i want to add a 7 way plug to pull a car trailer with. I already have another truck it's a 1992 f-250 already wire with a brake controller. my 92 has a tow package, and i don't know if my 86 has it or not what do i need to look for or get to wire a controllerin it.

Answer
If I understand right, you are wanting to put a brake controller on your '86 truck that doesn't have one, and switch the four-prong light plug to a seven way plug.

This isn't that hard to do, and the brake controller that you buy will have the instructions on how to wire it.  If your '86 isn't wired for a brake controller from the factory, then you will have to run a wire for the brakes back to the new plug.  You already have the lights, so that isn't a big deal.

You may need a factory wiring diagram, but usually the instructions with the controllers have plenty of info on how to find the correct wires.
