Towing Issues: towing issues II, ace towing, tow yard

Question
Now that I have paid 875.00 to get my truck out of tow, I forgot my keys left to get them and didn't return until the morning to pick up truck and it had been towed again by the sherriff dept., for expired tags, which I hadn't had a chance to put the extension number in the window, talked sherriff Dept will waive fees, but thwe tow company will not---Ace towing had it in the first place and then  el cajon towing towed it(both companies are owned by the same man)Now the fee is in the 500.00s  What is Going On?

Answer
Well sounds like that area of California has some high prices for towing services.  That or the storage fees are high and it took you a few days to find the vehicle..

Good deal that the sheriff has waved the fees that they would charge..  I would talk to the tow company again if possible.  I know that the money involved is hard to handle but they might do something. Never hurts to try it and make sure to bring the receipt.
Also make sure that when you go to the tow yard, you have your identification, proof of ownership, proof of insurance, keys, and anything thing else you need.  That is what we stress when talking to people about their vehicles and what is needed to get then back.

If the tow was truly just for overnight like you said, then its maybe time to have the sheriff check out the fees.. They could be overcharging,  BUT I WANT TO STRESS THIS, what some people consider overcharging is not, its fees that are sometimes set by police contracts in addition to other fees which are incurred like storage, fees for night and weekend releases, lein process fees (required under state law and able to be passed on to the vehicle owners) and things like that.

Hope it helps a bit, I know its maddening to see it happen again.
