Towing Issues: towing issues, pta member, school district officials

Question
I was told by a sherriff if I parked my truck at this school parking lot it would not be towed, not knowing a carnival was that day there, ex-next(1 recently had house foreclose) door neighbor(pta member) spots my truck and calls a tow co and has it towed to a tow yard. Now it is over 700.00 to get it out, I don't have the money.  The school says it backs their pta members!  what should I do?

Answer
Well, I hate to say it but it sounds bad for you.

First of all the Sheriff might of meant for a short while parking will be allowed. I bet he did not know about the carnival (did you?)..

Now the Ex neighbor who called the tow company interests me.
I notice you did not mention a state or city so I will give a basic answer. Vehicles can be towed off private property (yes the school is private property) by authorized Law Enforcement officers, the property owner (school district officials) or the management ( principal) or their designated agents in writing. Now the ex neighbor might not have had the proper authority to have the vehicle removed, but that is for a court to decide.

If they were in charge of the carnival then they might of had the right, but only for that event.

The $700.00 fee most likely is part of the tow fee and a lot of storage fees which increase daily.
I would talk to the school and the school district people about the validity of the tow, and also the tow company. Someone had to sign for the tow and if they were not authorized then its an illegal tow.

And remember small claims court is where you will be, in the event you feel that you will not be getting the results you want, but it can also go against you also.
