They did not disconnect my linkage, nor put the truck into neutral. My transmission was acting up since then, My truck died yesterday. My transmission is fried said the mechanic. What did they do that broke my truck--what were they supposed to do in order to proerly tow this specific vehicle. Thank you for your help.

Answer
Alicia,
Any tow truck driver should know that you never drag a vehicle (unless it's been in some horrible wreck or something where dragging the vehicle is warranted, such as up a hill or something). There are ways of dollying, pivot winching, etc., which allow tow truck drivers to maneuver a vehicle so that it can be hooked up to the tow truck or flatbedded properly without necessitating dragging of the vehicle. It would be a good idea to get something in writing from the mechanic, or from a Toyota dealer's service department, that states that what the tow truck driver did actually damaged the transmission. Then you can take the tow operator to court and sue for damages. Take photographs of where your truck was parked, and find out the name of the person driving the tow truck. Also, if you have any eyewitnesses it would surely help your case. Nonetheless, I don't believe that it's necessary to drag a vehicle 20-25 feet just to be able to tow it out of a parking space. Unless the situation is extraordinary, then every other measure of care should be taken when towing any vehicle. Any tow truck driver should know exactly which methods are to be used when moving any specific make and model of vehicle, be it a rear-wheel, front-wheel, four-wheel, or all-wheel drive. Dragging should absolutely be a last-resort tactic and can do irreparable damage, and the tow truck driver should be trained as such. Good luck to you!
