Towing Issues: Towing Jeep Wrangler, jeep wrangler sport, jeep wrangler

Question
I want to tow a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport manual transmission V-6 engine.  Jeep manual advises to put transfer case in neutral and the transmission in gear (any gear)  Why wouldn't you put both the transfer case and the transmission in neutral?
I will be towing with a towbar and all four wheels down.  I will be towing behind a 36' motorhome.

As long as the transfer case is in neutral it makes no difference whether the transmission is in gear or not.

However, if the transmission is in park/gear you will be unable to tow if the transfer case is not in neutral. If you choose to tow with the transmission in neutral and mistakenly do not put the transfer case in neural, plan on buying a new transmission.

The transmission in park/gear is not mandatory, it just makes it a little more foolproof.
