Towing Issues: Towing by the rea, wheel drive car, pontiac grand am

Question
My front wheel drive car (pontiac grand am) was recently towed in park out of my driveway from the back.  Could this have damaged the transmission?

Thank you

Answer
Yes, No, Maybe...

Its hard to say, but Generally you are supposed to lift the drivewheels off the ground while towing.  Now alot of times they are not accessable, and then dollies might be used. Or the vehicle is loaded onto a flatbed.

Towing it a short distance, like out to the street or to where they can get to the front should not cause damage, but then like any other mechanical thing damages happen.

Its like turning on the lights,  did the lightbulb blowout ?

GM and AAA both recommend that it not be towed over the distance needed to gain access to the front end to tow it. That would usually cover like a distance of 100 feet or so.   But that is also open to discussion.

End result and answer is that it could of damaged your transmisson, but only a transmission shop can tell you what really happened to the vehicle transmission..

Hope this helps
