Towing Issues: Towing A Chev Astro Van, astro van, tow dolly

Question
Richard I would like to tow a 1992 Chev Astro Van to Camden SC from Woodbridge VA, about 450 to 500 miles.  I would like to tow it with a 2004 Chev Avalanche 1/2 ton Truck, without damaging either vehicle.  Can this be done safely and without causing and damage to either vehicle?

Answer
Well from that I can find, it sounds as this is do able project.

I would get a tow dolly (like what UHAUL rents ) and load the Astro van onto it from the back, with will get the rear wheels and the drive train off the ground. This will allow for you to go down the road without the potential of damage to the transmission.  Make sure that the steering wheel on the van is LOCKED AND TIED so that it tracks and travels in the straight line behind the Avalanche.

On the Avalanche just make sure you check the vehicle fluids and drive safe.  Remember it will be an additional 4000 pounds behind you, dragging uphill and pushing you down hill...

Drive safe and be carefull and you should have a good trip.

Thats the best answer I can tell you .
