Towing Issues: Towing Mark Lt four wheels down, lincoln mark lt, 2006 lincoln mark lt

Question
Thanks in advance for your help. I purchased a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT automatic with shift on the fly 4x4 Buttom on dash has 2H 4H & 4L. Ford offers a neutral tow kit for several vehicles including Explorer 4x4 with buttons on the dash for 4x4 engagement. The owner off this vehicle tells me the kit was installed which is a module and a light on the dash. Turn the key on the on position put the tranie in neutral press the brake, push lever in park followed by several clicks on the four wheel buttoms hold for a minute or so and a click sound, light on dash goes on and in now in neutral ready for towing.
I don't understand why we can't do the same for the 150 or the Mark LT. The setting to the 2wheel high will leave the for differencial in neutral. Can you help with how and if the truck can be programmed with a neutral tow kit or something elso?

Question -
I want to tow a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT 4x4 shift on the fly with three positions on dash buttom 2H 4H 4L. Is there a way to have the computer programed to neutalize the tranie or will I have to install driveshaft disconnect? Several Ford don't even know.

Ken,

Good question.  You've stumped the experts.  Remco Manufacturing (www.remcotowing.com) has driveshaft measurements for a 2WD model, but they have not yet seen the 4WD model.

I would venture to guess.... nevermind, I'm not about to guess anything with a very expensive transmission on the line.

I would suggest giving Remco a call directly (1-800-228-2481) and see what they can do for you.

Also, there is a tow truck expert on this site (Richard) that may have the tow distance limits and requirements.

Good luck,

Answer
I am not a Ford engineer so I do not know the differences in the build or the computer controls between their different transfer cases.

I would imagine on your truck that a driveshaft disconnect on the rear driveshaft would work fine.... HOWEVER "I AM NOT A FORD ENGINEER".

That being said, I would still call Remco and see what they have to say.  They may have found a fix, or they may make your truck towable for cheap so that they can engineer a solution.  No way to know without calling them.
