Towing Issues: Towing, transmission coolers, chevy silverado

I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 V6 with 2wd and extended cab. I want to purchase a toy hauler travel trailer. I am looking at the lighter weight/size ones but all of them are rated over 5k lb gross weight. Is there any way I can still do this with my 1/2 ton truck without damaging it?

well, this is a bit out of my expertise.  I know that I looked at toy haulers when I got my pickup also.  But then I did buy one that will handle what ever I throw at it.  

If you could get ahold of Shane (the other expert here ) he might be able to help.. He does more trailer towing stuff and is a bit better than me.

But with transmission coolers and proper weigh distribution equipment to make the load more stable you might get by. But I would check with the local RV dealers and see what they say..
I am forever going and picking up wrecked or disabled 1/2 ton pickups which were towing trailers.  Based on that I would say from what I see they are not rated for what people want to do with them. But that is what I see.
