Towing Issues: Towing legal???, medical cards, fire lane

Question
I was recently towed after being parked in a red zone for a max of 7 minutes.  I understand that I am not suppose to park there but it was an emergency and i had my blinkers on.  I was running up to my apartment to pick up my sick 11 month old daughter to take her to the emergency room and I had parked there, by the time i got her and grabbed a bottle the tow truck was @ the end of my driveway  and I went running to grab him to just pay that fee and the truck driver saw me running to him, jumper in his truck and drove off. I called the company to see if the driver could turn around because it was an emergency and the dispatcher said that the driver was already @ the shop. And i had to make an appointment to come pick up the car @ 730 that night.  My purse and cell phone were in the car with all of my daughters information and medical cards so i couldnt take her to the doctor.  When i went to pick the car up they charged me $260. Was this Legal???

Answer
Well  sorry to say but red zone ( I take it that its a fire lane ) are only for police, fire and ambulances.

Blinkers or not, it dones not help.  Infact the hazard lights have a great way of saying  " LOOK HERE I AM PARKED ILLEGAL "

Now if the tow truck was in the area or complex it would not take very long to hook up and leave the scene.  There are some trucks that can hook up and leave, as fast as it takes to go from Reverse to Drive ...

The appointment, is standard practice for anything after normal business hours.. There is usually an extra fee to redeem the vehicle them...

I can not comment on the $ 260.00 fee as I do not know the specifics of what City and what rules and regulations were in effect.

But that does seem normal for what we call Private Property Impounds..  Some areas are more some are less. Guessing here,  California ?

I do hope your daughter is doing well, and I am sorry that you had this experience ..
