Towing Issues: Damage to AWD with towing, tow zone, bad apples

Question
I mistakenly parked my car in a tow zone and was towed by the city.  I have an Audi A4 all wheel drive.  When I picked the car up, I immediately noticed a grinding noise when I engaged the clutch and occurs in gears 1-3.  I believe they damaged the car when they towed it, likely not using a flat-bed.  Is the towing company liable for this damage, and what likely happened?  Thanks.

Answer
well  aahhhh real hard to say that they did anything wrong, or that they did not do it.

Most of the time impounds are done with a wheel lift truck and dollies which lift the vehicle up almost straight and have it all the way off the ground... However sometimes they do use flatbeds..

Basic flatbed use is that the vehicle slides / rolls up onto the deck.

Now as to finding out what method was used, I would go back to the tow company and inquire as to what truck was used and discuss the tow and possible damaage to the vehicle.

Be civil in this as you can get more flys with honey than vinegar..  If its something that they might of done they should stand up an take care of it.  Most companies are good about this, how ever there are always a few bad apples in every bunch..
