Toyota Repair: 1991 toyota 4x4 truck

1991 toyota 4x4 v6 auto trans 154.000 miles
I bought this truck about six months ago about three months ago I was driving and it just died so I costed to a stop and tried to start it with no luck so I opened up the hood and I unplugged the two wire harness on the coil and the five or six wire harness on the igniter right next to the coil and plugged them back in the truck started right up it drove fine for about a month and happened again so I did the same as last time and started right up now it has happened three more times in the last two weeks i put a new rotor and distributor cap on and then drove it about a mile and it died again do not want to drive it until I get it fixed I don't want to get stranded. Can you help thank you.

Hello, check to see if there are any diagnostic codes in the computer, you can do this by locating the check connector under the hood near the fuse box, open the cover and look for the terminals TE1 and E1, put a short jumper wire in to connect the two, turn the key on, the engine light will blink a two digit code, for example a code 14 would be one blink and the two, a short pause and then either repeat the code or show another one, they will repeat a few times so write them down.
