Question
QUESTION: Well i had tires changed in the rear of my car but my check engine light comes on and go off it will stay on then go off and for alike a few days on and off  should i take and see if i need shocks or something just ng but is it ok to drive

ANSWER: Hello, a problem in the suspension will not turn the check engine light on, what year and model Toyota is it?
The check engine light turns on because there is a malfunction with one of the computer controlled systems, there are diagnostic codes stored, the best way to go about this is to first find out the stored code numbers, most autoparts stores like Autozone, Pep Boys will help you get the codes at no charge, when you have the code number information as well as vehicle details I can help you diagnose the problem.

QUESTION: Well thanks but OK I have the check engine light that comes on then goes off and its reading the code of 00p12/00p11 but like what is that all about is that good or bad it will stay on for a few days or more then it goes off for a few its not blinking would it be expensive to fix or what should I do I had gotten a oil change from valvaline like a month in a half ago and so please can you help me I'm due for a inspection for my car in a few month .

Answer
Those codes are related to the variable valve timg (VVTi) control system, Toyota had issued a TSB for these codes (T-SB-0269-10) it involves replacing the vvti camshft actuator gear, which is very involved, the camshafts have to be removed, in some cases the oil control valve can cause this, it is located externally on the cylinder head near the front, you can try replacing it first to see if it helps, I do not have a copy of the service bulletin , the Toyota dealer should be able to print one for you so you can see the detailed instructions for the procedure.
