Toyota Repair: 1985 Corolla Exhaust?, toyota corolla, cylinder compression

Question
I own a 1985 toyota corolla, 4DSD, with 78,000 miles. After accelerating when I take my foot off the pedal or when the car is moving without me pressing the gas it makes a puttering sound . . . kind of like a put, put, put, put sound. Also, if I drive the car for atleast 10 miles on the freeway, then turn the car off, and then get back into the car to go somewhere else within 30 minutes after originally stopping the car acts like its flooded when I try to start it. It barely turns over and stays at a really low idle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
Hello, it sounds like the engine has a misfire, I would start by replacing the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and the rotor, just a basic tune up, if there should be no improvement I would recommend checking the engine cylinder compression, the noise you hear may be due to a leaking exhaust valve.
