Toyota Repair: 93 Corolla oil leak, crankshaft seal, harmonic balancer

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I just had the water pump, alternator belt, a/c belt, power steering belt, and harmonic balancer changed on my 93 Corolla LE 1.8 auto trans. Now I notice that there is a decent amount of oil leaking from that area (under pulleys area) right after the work was done. What do you think is leaking oil? Did the mechanic do something wrong? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

ANSWER: It sounds like the front crankshaft seal is leaking, it may have been damaged while replaoing the pulley or if it was replaced may be installed incorrectly.

QUESTION: About how long would it take a mechanic to replace/repair the front crankshaft seal? What would need to be removed to get to it? Thanks!

Answer
Ok on this model engine the timing cover has to be removed as well as the timing belt, basically the same as replacing the belt plus the seal. In my opinion the seal should have been replaced when the original work was done, labor is usually about 4 hrs flat rate multiplied by the shop's hourly rate.
