Toyota Repair: 2001 Toyota Tacoma, spiral cable, frontal collision

Question
Air bag light came on . Is it safe to drive? Can I reset it?

Answer
You can drive it but is it safe? In a way no, if you get in a frontal collision the airbags will not deploy. A very common issue on these models is the spiral cable assembly located directly below the sterering wheel on the column, it may need to be replaced, in order to conform this the diagnostic codes would have to be retrieved from the air bag ecu. Resetting it requires the diagnostic tool, it won't keep the light off due to the malfunction it will just turn back on right away.
