Toyota Repair: ignition switch, steering wheel lock, release pin

Question
1997 camry ignition switch only turns to acc position.  won't lock steering wheel.  can't unstick by rocking car (transmission lock up).  therefore must be lock mechanism.

how do i replace the ignitioin switch cyclinder without taking the steering wheel lock mechanism apart?

Answer
You can replace the ignition lock cylinder by temoving the covers around the steering wheel, it's best to buy the new cylinder so you can locate the release pin easier.
with the covers off turn the switch to the 'ACC'position
locate the release pin hole on the lock housing, it should be on the bottom
push the release pin in with a small screwdriver etc
pull the cylinder out with the key
put in the new cylinder with key in the ACC position
