Toyota Repair: toyota 5sfe engine problem, 5sfe engine, toyota camry

Question
Ted:I have a 1994 Toyota Camry LE station wagon,5sfe engine, 315k miles. Have weird engine problem.started out engine would interittently die at idle on its own or when I went to take off from idle. Usually would not restart unless it sat for 5-10 minutes. Then it might be just fine for a few days, then same problem.Tried several aftermarket coils, all bad. Tried 2 different remanufactured distributors, also bad. Finally went and bought Toyota OEM coil and put it in my distributor. When problem occurs I do have a pulse at the primary of the coil and also have a spark at the plugs.I have:replaced ECM with a different one, changed TPS,air intake sensor, MAP sensor, cleaned EGR valve, replaced IAC valve and throttle body.I have a gauge on the fuel rail, reads about 40 PSI all the time.I'm about at my whits end, love the car and it runs great going down the road. I notice that if I dont let the engine return to idle but keep rpms above 1000-1200 it wont die on me. The only thing left I can think of is that the junkyard ECM has the same weird problem wrong with it that my ECM does. Can you help? Thank you very much. Kenneth Hale

Answer
I doubt that the ECM you replaced has the same problem, the only hting I can think of is that there may be a wiring problem between the ecm and the engine or a bad ecm ground, check the ground wires at the ecm connectors, they are all brown/black, check these with an ohm meter to ground with the connectors off.
