Toyota Repair: Driver window repair, independent shop, s driver

Question
My 2003 Avalon's driver side window has been making a sound lately when opining and closing. I brought it to my Toyota dealer and they told me it will need a new motor and regulator at a cost of $704 plus tax (New Jersey). I was told that if I wait until it breaks, the cost will be higher because they will need to put in additional parts ( I forgot what parts). This is an incrediblly high cost, and I would like to go somewhere else than my dealer. Do you think an independent shop could do this job effectively at lower cost? Or am I asking fort rouble by going to someone else?

Answer
Most autorepair shops should be able to replace this part for a lot less, the labor should be around $180.oo, the part is available at most autoparts stores like Autozone, if you are not in a hurry to have it fixed you can order the regulator and motor for as little as $50.00 new.
Try autopartswarehouse.com enter you vehicle information and you will see the regulator motor that I just looked at. If you want to shop around a bit just enter "03 avalon window regulator" into you google or other search toolbar and you will see a lot more maybe close to you so you can pick it up.
