Toyota Repair: Warm air always comes out of air ducts, toyota corolla, heater valve

Question
QUESTION: On my 1996 Toyota Corolla, warm air comes out of the air ducts at all times, even when I have the temperature control value to the coldest setting. Unfortunately, in the summer this means the air is a bit too warm when the air conditioner is on. Is this a problem with the blend door? How difficult is it to repair?

ANSWER: Check the heater contro cable that connects to the heater valve under the hood, then remove the glove box and make sure the control cable that connects to the blend door is connected and moves when using the control knob.

QUESTION: The control cable functions and controls the blend door just fine, but the air is still a bit warm when the temp control knob is at the coldest setting. So does this indicate the door is not being fully closed letting warm air escape into the air ducts? If so, how difficult is it to get to the blend door and fix that issue?

Answer
To make sure the blend door is closed all the way set the control on cold, remove the cable from the door lever, push the lever all the way closed and re attach the cable. You may also check the freon level and make sure the compressor is running, it may be low on freon, you can get an inexpensive recharge kit at the autoparts store, just follow the instructions
