Toyota Repair: iddle rpm on 2AZ-FE is too high, toyota estima, fuel consumption

Dear Ted,

I would be thankful if you could let me know if the idle rpm on the engine 2AZ-FE can be lowered manually and how.

At present my TOYOTA ESTIMA (or PREVIA) engine runs close to 750 rpm on automatic gear 'D' but when shifted to position 'N' it raises up to 1.300 rpm. The fuel consumption seems to be 20-30% above  normal (16 liters per hundred Km. in urban areas with 50% of time in a jam!)

so I also wonder if the high fuel consumption could be linked to this.

Try cleaning the inside of the throttle body, use carbon remover spray and a brush, a lot of carbon deposits can keep the throttle plate from closing completely. Disconnecvt the battery for a few minutes, start the engine and drive the car about 15 minutes, the idle should return to normal, the idle can not be adjusted manually.
