Toyota Repair: Dealer Recommended Repairs, mileage intervals, routine oil changes

Question
Hi,
I have a 2007 Highlander, serviced at the Toyota dealer. I find that the dealer often recommends service that is not in the manual and I am unsure if I should follow their recommendations or not.  The most recent example was the 2007 Highlander which was in for an oil change. The service rep recommended front and rear differential service. The truck has 41000 miles. I did not have it done. Should I have done it?  I don't see this service recommendation in the manual. The Highlander has had routine oil changes, brakes when needed, and new air filter and cabin filter at 30,000 miles. What is your opinion on service needed per the mfr vs additional service recommended by the dealer? Thanks!

Answer
Hello, each dealer usually uses their own guidelines depending on location and environmental conditions although the owner's manual is very specific as to what should be done and at what mileage intervals for both normal and extreme conditions.
As far as the differential oil on this model I would recommend doing this at 60,000 miles
