Toyota Repair: turn signal problems, left turn signal, trailer hitch plug

Question
hello,
i have a 1996 toyota tacoma, v6, 4wd, manual. when i turn on the left turn signal the right turn signal blinks dimly. when i engage the right turn signal everything works fine. I also noticed when i turn the left turn signal on the dash display lights blink dimly in timing with the turn signal. i checked all the connections on each turn signal housing for corrosion and ensured clean contacts and they all looked fine? do you have any suggestions. I also noticed an aftermarket trailer hitch plug in. is this on the same circuit? could it be causing the short?

thanks;
edward

Answer
Yes, the trailer wiring can cause this, they use a converter box which can malfuction, i would suggest disconnecting the trailer wiring completely and check to see if the problem stops, if so you can get a replacement wiring kit at most autoparts stores or trailer supply stores.
