Toyota Repair: 97 4runner check engine light, rainy weather, autozone

I have a 1997 4Runner 4wd. When it is warm and rainy out my check engine light will come on.  On occasions it has just died with no warning (also in warm, rainy weather). After sitting for a while, the 4Runner will start up again. The longer it sits, the longer it will stay running when it starts. When the check engine light comes on (and it does not die) the acceleration changes.  Almost as if there is a slight hesitation when I accelerate.  The last time I had a tester hooked to it to check the read out on the check engine light, it did not come up with a code. Any help you could give would be appreciated.  Thank you!  Theresa

Hello, not sure what is going on without any diagnostic codes, it sounds like it may be a misfire. If the check engine light comes on there has to be some information in the computer, can you go to an autozone or similar parts store they usually get the trouble codes for you at no charge then lety me know the code numbers.
