Toyota Repair: 2005 Toyota Corolla fuel tank door release doesnt work, 2005 toyota corolla, toyota corolla

Question
The release lever at the driver seat can't open the fuel tank door. Technician has forced open it. Checked that the release wire and locking mechanism (spring and wire connection) at the fuel door are OK. Suspect that the wire attachment at the lever has broken. Can see the wire running towards the lever but the end is hidden under part of the car body behind the lever. Please advise how and where to uncover the hidden connection between the lever and wire. Is it required to open any cover from the bottom of the car?

Answer
The most likely cause is at the front release lever, this is where the cable usually comes off, the seat has to be removed and the lever checked, sometimes they just come loose, the cable may be reattached or the release lever may have to be replaced. To access the cable at the rear the plate surrounding the filler neck has to be removed.
