QUESTION: Hi, I have a RAV 4 1997 and I have a problem with the system. It dosn´t recognized the key I have been using and Toyota Argentina says I can´t enter any other code key because it has already 4 codes registered (one is the valet key). I haven´t lost the others keys, they just stopped working or sending the signal. They say I should clon the valet key (the only one that works today) or change the complete system...Do you know if they should try to reset the Ecu or erase some of the keys that dosn´t work? thank you from Argentina!

ANSWER: The dealeer should be able to clear all information, cloning the valet key won't work you have to have a working master key.

If you have no master key it should still be possible to clear the stored key codes but the valet key can't be programmed it may be necessary to replace either the theft deterent ecu or the engine control unit depending on if it has the system built into the ECM or has a seperate theft deterrent ecu.
