Toyota Repair: 2004 Rav4 Transmission Pan Leak, cement floor, transmission pan

Question
Hi Ted,

I took my Rav4 in today for an oil change and 15 pt inspection. I usually take it to a different Toyota dealer, but could not get to that one, so I am trying one I don't know that is closer. I was told my brakes needed replacing (no surprise), my water pump was leaking and my transmission pan was leaking. My question is how could my transmission pan be leaking, but my vehicle not leave any fluid on the ground...it is parked in a garage with a cement floor and no fluids on the ground. This is puzzling me. Is that possible?

Answer
If no fluids are leaking on the ground then it's not a leak, a small amount of seepage is considered normal for the  transmission oil pan. Ask them to show you the water pump leak, if they can see it then so can you, if it's seeping a small amount of coolant then it's best to replace it because it may fail down the road later.
