Toyota Repair: VSC warning Toyota Prius, toyota prius, autoparts store

I was driving down the road and the VSC warning light came on with the check engine light.  I could only drive about 2 blocks before it shut down and would not go into drive or reverse or anything.  It just shut down completely.  What would cause this?  It had been working absolutely fine and had no other warnings something might be wrong before it just quit.  Where would I find a code you refer to in other answers to know how I am looking at with repair costs, etc.?

The check engine light usually turns the VSC light on as well, yes, I will need the diagnostic trouble codes so I can try to help, is it possible that it ran out of fuel? If not visit an autoparts store like Autozone, Kragen, Advance auto etc, they can get the engine trouble code for you at no charge and I'll go from there, please record the code numbers exactly, their description of what may be wrong is not what I need, I only need the code numbers, then reply back to me.
