Toyota Repair: 4-runner, speed sensor, upshift

Question
my question is , can my 4-runner operate W/out the speed sensor connected, or can it be temporarily bypassed till i can get a new one?

Answer
It should be ok to drive but you may notice some performance issues as the computer needs this input for engine control, if it's a manual transmission it will be less noticeable but if it's an automatic the upshift/downshift schedules may be affected and you may lose the overdrive function .
