Toyota Repair: 1991 Previa warm restart, coolant temp, engine coolant

Question
QUESTION: My 91 Previa (183,000 miles) starts fine but after a few miles (could be 5, could be 10), it sputters and dies. If I try to restart while hot, engine tries to start but backfires to no avail. Restart is impossible until the motor cools down. After three or four hours, it starts just fine. Five miles from this point...sputters and dies. I changed the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor with no luck. Help!

ANSWER: It may be an ignition system problem, possibly the igniter module, have you checked for any diagnostic codes, do you need instructions how to do so?

QUESTION: Igniter Module? Mmmm...that's a new one for me. What does it do and where would it be. To answer your question, yes, I do need instructions on how to pull the diagnostic codes. Thanks in advance for your great help. Rich

Answer
The igniter module is under the car near the end of the cylinder head where the ditributor is, it may also be a good idea to remove the distributor cap and check the cap and the rotor. To get the trouble codes, if any, fold the driver's seat back, you will see a diagnostic check connector to the left of where the seat goes, open the cover and put a juumper wire between the terminals TE1 and E1, turn the key on, the check engine light will blink a two digit code, a code 13 would be one blink followed by three and so on.
