Toyota Repair: 2009 Corolla oil change/filter, 2009 toyota corolla, toyota corolla

Question
After searching over the internet for information on how to change the oil and filter on the 2009 Toyota Corolla, I've run into a lot of ire and anger on the part of consumers.  Apparantly, the filter is inside some sort of cap and not a readily available can-type spin-on oil filter.

After two years or so, what is the general concensus now?  Is this an impossible to self-service ploy by Toyota, or has it been accepted?

Second, the oil filter cap states 5W-20 oil for this car. That's thinner than any I've every used.  Just what does this mean, and in what way does it differ from the 10W-30 that we used in our 1995 Corolla that we've just retire/scrapped?

Answer
Oil filter replacement requires a special socket that fits on the black filter housing, these are inexpensive and available at most autoparts stores as well as the filters.
5W-20 is the oil the factory recommends, the newer engines have smaller clearances between moving parts so thinner oil is recommended.
