Toyota Repair: 1996 toyota camry, jumper wire, toyota camry

I have a camry with am ecm 1.  i thought all cars after 1996 were supposed to have an ecm 2.  is there a way to hot wire the ecm 1 and get the code from blinking check engine light?

You can get trouble codes by putting a jumper wire in the diagnostic check connector under the hood, with the key on put a ju7mper between terminals TE1 and E1 then read the code from the check engine light, it will blink giving the code number, a code 21 would be two blinks followed by one and so on, there masy be more than one code.
