Toyota Repair: 1989 TOYOTA CELICA INTEMITTENT STARTING PROBLEM, toyota celica, 1989 toyota celica

Question
I have read your post from back in 2007 concerning intermittent starting problems in late 80's and early 90's Toyota vehicles.  My 89 Celica seems to have the same problem that you discuss.  I replaced the contactors in the starter a little over 1 year ago and believed that to be the fix to the problem, now having same issue.  It will start fine for week after week and then one day after it has been running a while and and you try and re-start it, nothing happens.  It is like the starter is not getting any power at all.

You mention the fix to the problem is to add a relay to the start circuit.  You mention having a diagram that you would email if someone needed it.  I would like to try this fix and would much appreciate your consideration in sending me the diagram.

Thank you very much in advance.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey R Smith

Answer
The added relay is used on early 4 Runner and trucks using the 3VZN engine only if nothing else works, in most cases it's something else that is the cause, your celica may have a bad neutral start switch or the stater is going out again, adding the relay won't fix this but if you still want the diagram I will submit it to you, I have to locate it in my files.
