Toyota Repair: ABS and VSC, vvti controller, lexus gs400

Question
hi Mr. Ritter,
   i have a 1998 lexus GS400. i currently have about 175000miles on my car.
i am currently having the following problem w/ my car and in need of some serious guidance....please help..
1. my ABS would initiate when i do a routine roll stop. i have checked my speed sensors with my mechanic using the scanner. we checked it while i was driving and the reading were all normal...what could my problem be?
2. my check engine light/VSC/VSC off lights are on with the code 1346, my mechanic is telling me to get a replacement for the VVT sensor for bank 1. what's your thoughts on this?

thanks.

Answer
First of all, the abs/vsc lights are on because of the check engine light, this is by design, these systems are turned off whenever the check engine light comes on so the only real problem is the check engine light. The P1346 diagnosis is correct , it's the vvtI sensor on bank one which is the one on the left side of the engine(driver's side)on the V-8. This code can also come up if the timing belt is worn and slipped on the gear, there is a way to test the VVTi system using the scantool to activate the VVTi controller to see if it is the cause.
