Toyota Repair: leaking gas tank, fiberglass mat, salvage yards

Question
I just bought a 01 celica with a salvaged title.  It was in a wreck and was hit from the side.  After work for the last couple days i noticed a small puddle of gas directly on the bottom/center of the tank, which has evolved in size. Thus revealing a crappy patch job, it looks like puddy, kind of hanging there, with a drip coming out of it.  My question is, can I use a patch over it? And if so do I need to remove the tank even though its obvious were the leak is? Would I have to ream a hole even though they must have the first time? Cash is tight and I am looking for a pros opinion on what you would do, if you were in a pinch like myself.

Answer
What I would do is to check with some salvage yards that specialize in japanese imports and find a used gas tank. I don't recommend repairing it but you can try to drain all fuel out, clean the area of all paint down to the metal and use fiberglass mat and resin, this may work.
