Toyota Repair: Toyota Camry 2002 loses power at stop light, toyota camry 2002, variable valve timing

Question
Hi, my car is at 125K miles, and today it acted weird after
I pulled from a stop light. This has never happened before.
In the middle of the right turn, the car stopped
accelerating, the gas pedal was irresponsive, and there was
a horrible noise which I am not sure where it came from. The
RPM went up to 3000. It lasted a minute or less and then it
went back to normal and I drove to work without issues and
the problem did not occur on my way back home. The check
engine light was on and the codes are P0446 and P1349.
Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Answer
The P0446 code is an emission control malfuction code and doesn't affect driveability. The P1349 code is a little more serious it's a VVTi (variable valve timing) malfunction, the first thing you should do is to check the engine oil and if it's low add oil to the full mark if the oil is dirty have it changed and clear the code by disonnecting the negative side of the battery for a minute, if the code comes back again you will need to get the toyota dealer involved, this is not something you can deal with yourself.
