Toyota Repair: 1992 Camry A/C and EVV Valve, coolant leak, lamens terms

Question
Been havin a few issues, so I will tell you all, in case they are related. 1992 Camry 4 Cyl.  Recently replaced Battery, Alternator, and Starter.  About 2 weeks ago, the car all of a sudden lost power, but in a weird way that I was not accostomed to. I have been around for faulty wires and plugs etc...and this was different. I guess I best describe it as it was "Coughing" more than stallin out.  After pulling off and checking it, It drove totally normal back home about 10 miles. I let it sit and a week later, I took it for a drive around the block and noticed it drove ok, but after parking, it had a coolant leak. Replaced the by-pass lines below the intake and there doesnt seem to be anymore leaks.  The car seems to be driving just fine now. I am "mechanical" but dont know much about specifics. FIRST: I accidentally broke the EVV Valve. Its like $50-75 bucks to replace.  In Lamens terms..what is it for and do I have to replace it NOW (I rigged it with electrical tape to hold and reconnect the tubes)  SECOND:  around the same time..the A/C stopped working. Blowing hot. It HAS...in the past, done the whole" flashing light on the button thing" so I have no idea.  It has, and up until that day, blown cold and worked well in the AZ 115 degree heat.

Answer
I'm not sure what that valve is you're referring to, can you take a photo and attach it or give a more detailed description of it? Any wires connected to it and if so what color are the wires.Any vacuum hoses attached to it? I don't know if this has to do with the A/C so I need to be sure.
