Toyota Repair: calipers for the 4Runner, jackstand, 4runner

Question
I have a 2003 2WD 4Runner.  During a recent VA state inspection I was advised that I needed new brake pads.  I was called later and informed that I needed a new caliper on the passenger side - it was frozen (I believe the term was).  Unfortunately, the repair cost for this caused the overall cost for my inspection and brake pads to skyrocket.  Is this a common problem?  If it does need replacing, is there a source I can access to do the work myself?

Thanks -- Chris

Answer
In the southwest where i live it's very uncommon but it could be a more common problem in your state due to different enviromental conditions. It's not hat difficult to replace but it will require tools to remove the wheel and a jackstand and some hand tools to get the caliper off and then bleeding all the air out of the system, I can assist with that once you have the part and decide to do this yourself.
