Toyota Repair: 2001 highlander/ engine light, negative terminal, metal pipe

Question
13,000 miles, check engine light came on along with vcs/track off lights. what now/

Answer
The vsc/trac lights come one because of the check engine light so you would have to deal with the check engine trouble codes first. There are a couple of common things that you can check yourself before taking it in to have the diagnostic trouble codes retrieved from the computer. First open the hood and locate the air cleaner housing, make saure the evap system hose is not disconnected from the air filter, this hose is attached to the upper part of the air filter and connects to a metal pipe, check the fuel cap, make sure it's not loose or missing, if either is the problem, turn the light off by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for ten seconds.
