Toyota Repair: speedomenter, speedometer cable, cyl engine

Question
I have a 2004 Tacoma 2 door with a standard trans. and the small 4 cyl. engine.

All of a sudden the speedometer quit working.  It registers 0 until I get to approx. 65 and then it registers 90.  When I slow down the opposite happens.  Do I have a speedometer cable??

What can I do??

Answer
No they don't use speedometer cables anymore, they have a speed sensor in the transmission which sends a signal to the computer which drives the speedometer, in most cases the speed sensor will turn the check engine light on, in this case it seems that the problem is the speedometer itself.
